Muskingum University Receives Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits

Muskingum University’s Quad Center project is one of 24 projects approved for the Ohio Department of Development’s state historic preservation tax credits. It is the only project in southeastern Ohio.

“The state historic tax credits encourage investment into projects renovating historic structures,” said Vice President for Finance and Operations Philip Laube. “Renovating the Quad Center, which provides direct services to our students, will increase the utilization of this facility.”

Celebration of Light Continues Through January

Muskingum University’s Celebration of Light holiday display continues each evening through January 31, 2022. All are invited to walk or drive through the campus to enjoy the illumination.

The University welcomed the holiday season with its annual Celebration of Light ceremony, held at the Library Fountain on the evening of November 22, 2021.

Your Gift – His Story: David McDonald ’23

“I am very grateful for the privilege of being here at Muskingum,” David McDonald ’23 reflects. “Because of alumni support, I have a second chance at a college education.”

“My path did not lead directly to the University. After graduating from Mount Vernon High School (Ohio), I enrolled part-time at Central Ohio Technical College and worked at several jobs, but I was not finding my passion either in the classroom or in my work experiences.”

Muskies Share the Spirit of Giving

Throughout December, the Muskingum University community shared the holiday spirit of caring for others.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored a Hoops for Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, December 4, 2021, during the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader against John Carroll University. All fans received free admission to the game with a canned food, non-perishable item, or monetary donation. Donations were distributed to the New Concord College Drive Presbyterian Church Food Pantry.

Christmas Festival Celebrates the Season

Muskingum University’s Music Department presented the Christmas Festival, “From Darkness, To Light, To Life” on December 4, 2021, in Brown Chapel.

Celebrating Christmas traditions through music, the event featured performances by the Muskingum University Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and instrumental chamber ensembles.

President Sue Hasseler, Provost Nancy Evangelista, Interim Chaplain Tim Pollock, Luke Gill ’25, and Grace Hamilton ’25 shared inspirational readings.

Inaugural ABSN Cohort Graduates

The first cohort of graduates from Muskingum University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program completed their degrees during the Fall 2021 semester.

A special Pinning Ceremony celebrated their accomplishments on December 10, 2021, immediately following the Recognition of December Graduates event. Each graduate selected a significant person in their lives to join them on stage and present them with their Muskingum nursing pin.

December 2021 Graduates Recognized

On December 10, 2021, Muskingum University honored the accomplishments of its graduating seniors who completed their degrees during the Fall 2021 semester.

The in-person Recognition of December Graduates event featured remarks by Taylor Clemons ’21 and a vocal performance of Edith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose” by Victoria Vankirk-Hochstetler ’21.
