The Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) has awarded full 5-year accreditation to the educator preparation programs at Muskingum University. The University is leading Ohio in this new, innovative educator preparation accreditation.

The Commission evaluated evidence and documentation regarding the program’s capacity for and commitment to quality with regard to each of the AAQEP standards and determined that all four standards are met for initial accreditation. The program recruits, prepares, and supports candidates, including many first-generation college students, to work effectively as professional educators who can adapt to different contexts and continue to grow professionally. Muskingum University engages with stakeholders and partners to strengthen the P-20 education system with a focus on the local communities it serves.

“Congratulations to Muskingum University and to all of the faculty, staff, and stakeholders who have achieved their goal of initial accreditation by AAQEP,” said AAQEP President and CEO Mark LaCelle-Peterson. “This program monitors the effectiveness of its own work to ensure that it serves its candidates and community well.” 

National accreditation assures the quality of professional preparation programs through a nongovernmental, nonregulatory process of self-study and peer review. This standards- and evidence-based process serves two broad aims: accountability and continuous improvement. AAQEP currently has members in 35 states and other jurisdictions with some 190 educator preparation providers participating in the accreditation system.
