Muskingum University Receives $100,000 from Knowlton FoundationMuskingum University received a $100,000 grant from the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation to establish the Austin E. Knowlton Endowed Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is designed to aid students majoring in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) discipline or related field.
The scholarship will be awarded annually and is renewable for four years. Preference is given to full-time, first-year students from Ohio. Candidates meeting the criteria are automatically considered upon admission to the University.
“We are grateful to the Knowlton Foundation for this generous gift and their support of Muskingum University,” said President Susan Hasseler. “This scholarship will further increase access to an excellent STEM education for students in this region and throughout the state.”
Throughout his lifetime, Austin E. Knowlton, also known as “Dutch”, helped build and shape thriving communities. As owner and Chairman of the Knowlton Construction Company, Dutch and his company were responsible for over 600 significant construction projects throughout Ohio and the Midwest, including school buildings, hospitals, libraries and post offices.
In 1981, inspired by his success made possible by the education he received, Mr. Knowlton established his namesake Foundation to empower future generations of students and to support the institutions dedicated to educating them. Today, through the Foundation, Mr. Knowlton’s beneficial impact on communities throughout the Midwest continues, by helping to prepare future generations of leaders.
