Muskingum University celebrates the outstanding achievement of its December 2024 Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) graduates, all of whom passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) on their first attempt, demonstrating their competency by completing 85 questions—10 above the minimum required.

The latest class continues Muskingum’s strong track record of success, as all Spring 2024 nursing graduates also passed the NCLEX on their first attempt. This success underscores the program’s commitment to preparing exceptional nurses and addressing the growing nursing shortage in Ohio and beyond.

The University’s ABSN program is a hybrid, second bachelor’s degree program that fast-tracks individuals into nursing careers in just 15 months. The program blends advanced online coursework with hands-on clinical training, giving students practical experience through real-world placements and access to a state-of-the-art simulation lab. Designed to address the growing nursing shortage, the ABSN program ensures graduates are fully prepared to meet the demands of today’s dynamic healthcare environment.

One graduate, Keri Higginbotham ’24, is already making a local impact as a nurse in Genesis Healthcare System’s Critical Care Unit. After working in a different field, Higginbotham pursued her passion for healthcare through Muskingum’s ABSN program.

“The ABSN program at Muskingum, with its phenomenal faculty, state-of-the-art nursing lab, and exceptional clinical instructors, did an excellent job of preparing me to pass the NCLEX,” Higginbotham said.

Muskingum University is deeply committed to addressing the critical nursing shortage, particularly in Southeastern Ohio, where access to skilled healthcare professionals is essential. By cultivating strong partnerships with local hospitals and healthcare providers like Genesis Healthcare Systems, Muskingum ensures that ABSN graduates are not only well-prepared but also ready to make an immediate impact in their communities.

To meet the diverse needs of aspiring nurses, Muskingum University offers three distinct pathways to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Along with the ABSN program, traditional undergraduate students can pursue a four-year, on-campus BSN and registered nurses can advance their careers through the 100 percent online RN-to-BSN program. These flexible options ensure that students at every stage of their professional journey can achieve their nursing goals.
