Faculty Members Participate in STEM Conference
Three Muskingum University faculty members participated in a national conference for educators entitled “Transforming STEM Higher Education.” Organized by the American Association of Colleges & Universities and Project Kaleidoscope (PKAL), the conference was held in Chicago, Illinois from November 7-November 9, 2019.
Professor of Chemistry and Chair of the Science Division Paul Szalay, Associate Professor and Chair of Mathematics and Computer Science Matt Davis, and Assistant Professor of Biology Stephanie Allen represented the University at the conference.
The event explored multiple opportunities and challenges for STEM higher education, including broadening STEM student participation to promote diversity and inclusivity, facilitating student persistence and engagement in STEM fields, ensuring career and workforce readiness for STEM graduates, enhancing professional and leadership development for STEM faculty, incorporating contemporary approaches to teaching of STEM topics, and the use of research and assessment tools to determine educational effectiveness in STEM courses.
The conference activities were well-aligned with several initiatives currently underway at Muskingum, as part of the "Learning and Innovation" theme of the University's Impact 2025 Strategic Action Plan.
