Teacher Education Program Receives Grant
The Muskingum University teacher education program has received a $211,000 grant from the Ohio Deans Compact in support of curriculum development for dual-licensure programs.
The project will be led by co-directors Dr. Traci Tuttle, Chair of Muskingum’s Department of Education and Director of Educator Preparation Programs, and Dr. Ky Davis, Associate Professor of Education.
The focus of the grant is on ensuring that all teachers are prepared to meet the needs of all learners. The new dual-licensure curriculum will prepare Muskingum University graduates to teach in high school general education Integrated Social Studies classrooms, inclusive high school Integrated Social Studies classrooms, or a variety of settings as Intervention Specialists.
Many school districts, particularly those in rural Appalachian areas, face a significant shortage of teachers who are trained to support students with disabilities and special learning needs.
The Ohio Deans Compact promotes shared understanding and collective action to improve learning for all children, particularly those from marginalized groups such as students with disabilities and students who are economically disadvantaged. The Compact strives to increase inclusive models of teacher and educational leadership preparation so that all education professionals are better able to teach and support all learners.
