Concert Choir, Dr. Highben Semi-Finalists in American Prize CompetitionsMuskingum University’s choral program has garnered two semi-finalist selections in the 2018-19 American Prize competitions.
The Muskingum University Concert Choir is a semi-finalist for the American Prize in Choral Performance (College/University Division), and Dr. Zebulon Highben, Associate Professor of Music & Director of Choral Activities, is a semi-finalist for the American Prize in Choral Composition (professional division).
For the choral performance competition, the Concert Choir submitted 11 recordings comprising more than 30 minutes of music from the past several concert seasons.
Among the works submitted for the composition competition is Dr. Highben’s A Memory of Wonder, commissioned by the University and premiered during the April 2018 performances of “O Beautiful for Heroes Proved: A Concert in Honor of John Glenn.” The Concert Choir will be performing A Memory of Wonder again this year, during its spring 2019 performance tour.
Finalists and winners of the American Prize will be announced later this year.
The American Prize is a series of national competitions in the performing arts designed to recognize the best recorded performances by ensembles and individuals in the United States each year at the professional, college/university, church, community, and secondary school levels.
