Three students claim prizes from the Academy of American Poets

Three Muskingum College students have been recognized by the American Academy of Poets in its annual competition.

First place was awarded to Hugh Martin '09 for his poems My Roadside BombA Dusty Tent in Kuwait and Men Who Live on Coffee and Copenhagen.

Second place honors went to Paula Lehman '08 for her poems, Trepanation, St. Stephen and Fall of Hephaestus.

Receiving an honorable mention was Meryl Williams '08 for her poems Tiffany's Kitchen and A Brief Encounter with Written Language.

Founded in 1936, the Academy of American Poets is a nonprofit organization with a mission to support American poets at all stages of their careers and to foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry.
