Muskingum hosts state teaching tournament, qualifies third speaker for national competitionThe Muskingum College Department of Speech Communication & Theatre hosted the Ohio Forensics Association State Teaching Tournament on September 22 and qualified its third competitor for national competition.
John Jamin Wagler '11 won second place in Lincoln-Douglas debate and qualified for the National Forensic Association (NFA) national tournament, to be held in the spring of 2008. Also receiving honors was Rachel Thompson '09 who won first place in after dinner speaking.
Wagler’s qualification means that a total of three competitors from Muskingum have now earned a spot in national competition. Thompson qualified at the first tournament of the season, held several weeks ago, as did Micah Miller '11 who qualified in prose.
The State Teaching Tournament held at Muskingum also featured a series of instructional seminars on competitive speaking. Kevin Triskett '07, a national qualifier in last year, presented a session on managing limited time preparation. Randy Rittenhouse, visiting assistant professor of speech communication at Muskingum, presented a seminar titled Performance of Literature.
