Marissa Oakley recognized by American Association of Teachers of FrenchMarissa Oakley '09 has been recognized for academic excellence by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF). A French major with minors in business and Spanish, she is the first Muskingum College student to receive this award.
The AATF award recognizes a graduating senior who demonstrates academic excellence, as well as an exceptional commitment to speaking French and learning about French-speaking cultures.
The association also cited Oakley’s participation in Muskingum’s study abroad program, studying for a semester at the University of Toulon-Var in France. As a part of her experience, she subtitled in English a French independent film in preparation for the Cannes Film Festival.
At Muskingum, she has served as secretary of both the college’s French Club and its chapter of Phi Sigma Iota, the international foreign language honorary. In addition, Oakley was the 2006 recipient of the Charles C. Morehead Award for Excellence in French at the college.
The AATF was founded in 1927 and has as its mission the promotion of the study of French language and French-speaking literatures and cultures at all levels.
