Muskies travel & study in ItalyTwelve students led by Associate Professor of English Kekoa Kaluhiokalani and Associate Professor of Philosophy Rob Sharp traveled to Italy in May 2018 to immerse themselves in the country’s artwork and culture.
Students also took courses in philosophy, literature, and film that connected to the travel. This is the third time that Muskingum students have visited Italy on a faculty-led Study Abroad program.
The trip began and ended in Rome, with visits to the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Vatican Museum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome’s ancient harbor Ostia Antica, Trevi Fountain, and other historic sites.
The group traveled by train to Florence, which served as their home base for a week-long stay in the Tuscany region. They climbed to the top of Florence’s Duomo (the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore) and experienced Michelangelo’s David statue and the Uffizi Gallery’s incomparable collection featuring works by Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli. Through regional day trips, they also explored the cities of Siena, Pisa, and Venice before returning to Rome.
