Muskingum University Appoints Jennifer J. Dugan as New ProvostPresident Susan S. Hasseler, Ph.D. has appointed Jennifer J. Dugan, Ph.D. as Muskingum University’s new provost.
Dugan comes to Muskingum from the University of Pikeville, Pikeville, KY, where she served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences since 2019. As Dean, Dugan focused on the student experience by providing direction in the development and implementation of new programs and strategic collaborations with campus and community partners. She is an advocate for education and growth in the Appalachian region and beyond.
“I am excited to welcome Dr. Dugan to Muskingum University,” Hasseler said. “Her extensive teaching, program development, and leadership experience will support our student-centered mission and continue Muskingum’s tradition of academic excellence and regional and national impact.”
Dugan earned her doctorate in political science from University of California and her bachelor’s in political science from California State University. She is an American Council on Education Fellow (2009-2010) and has served on the Board of the Kentucky ACE Women’s Network.

Muskingum offers high-quality programs that are accessible and affordable to undergraduate, adult, and graduate students,” Dugan said. “I look forward to working with Muskingum’s exceptional faculty, staff, and campus partners to strengthen engagement, inclusion, and all elements of the distinctive Muskingum Experience.”
Reporting to the president, the provost serves as the chief academic officer for Muskingum University, providing university-wide leadership for academic affairs. Dugan begins her appointment on July 1.
