Student-Athletes Help Brighten Holiday Season
Hoops for Hunger

Muskingum University student-athletes are helping make the holiday season brighter for members of the local community.

On Nov. 13, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored the Hoops for Hunger Food Drive at the Muskingum women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader against Pitt-Greensburg and Wittenberg. All fans received free admission to the contests with a canned food, non-perishable item, or monetary donation. The following day, the student-athletes delivered more than 1,700 collected items and $700 in donations to the College Drive Presbyterian Church Food Pantry.

Muskingum Softball is sponsoring the “Adopt-a-Child” program this year. A Muskie tradition since 1989 also known as “Christmas on Campus,” the program invites athletic teams, student organizations, University departments, and individual Muskingum community members to sponsor a child’s holiday. Participants receive the Christmas list of a child in need, purchase and wrap presents, and write a letter of love. Muskies may also participate by making a financial donation toward the children’s presents.

On Dec. 4, Women’s Basketball sponsored a Hoops & Holiday Game during their contest against Wilmington. In exchange for free admission, fans brought new, unwrapped toys, stuffed animals, and monetary donations for the Secret Santa Program of Guernsey County.
