Muskingum Celebrates the Holidays
Join the Muskingum University campus community in celebrating the holidays with three special events.
November 28, 2023: Celebration of Light
Muskingum welcomes the holiday season with the annual lighting of its campus on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. on the steps of the John Glenn Gym.
The Celebration is to acknowledge the power of light in our lives. Many cultures and faith traditions point to light as a way of not just overcoming darkness, but of illuminating good in the world. The Celebration is designed to claim the power of light as we approach the end of the semester and move into the winter holiday season.
Community members are welcome to attend the event and to walk or drive through the campus to enjoy the lights. The holiday lights will remain lit until January 2024.
November 30, 2023: SEOSO Holiday Concert
The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra (SEOSO) will present its annual Holiday Concert on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. in Zanesville’s Secrest Auditorium. Tickets are free with a non-perishable food donation and may be obtained at the Muskingum County Library Systems, Secrest Auditorium, City Tire, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Guernsey County.
The program will feature favorite holiday tunes including Charlie Brown, the Grinch, Sleigh Ride, and many more, a salute to our military forces, and a holiday sing along. Brian Wagner ’89, CEO of the Muskingum Community Foundation, will guest host.
WHIZ-FM Z92 (92.7 FM) will broadcast the concert live over the air and on their website.
SEOSO is directed by Muskingum Professor of Music Laura Schumann and is comprised of Muskingum students, faculty and staff, regional community members, and professional musicians. For more information and the future performance schedule, visit SEOSO.
December 2, 2023: Muskingum University Christmas Festival
Muskingum’s annual Christmas Festival will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. in Brown Chapel.
Hosted by the Department of Music and the University Chaplain, the event features musical performances, readings, and traditional Christmas carols. This year’s program will feature Gwyneth Walker’s “Alpha and Omega” for choir and brass quintet and Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata” for choir and double brass choir.
The concert is free and open to the public with no tickets required. For those unable to attend, WMCO will offer a live broadcast of the event that will re-air each Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. through Christmas.
