Kathryn Naomi Farquhar Tanno, Class of 1948
Kathryn (Kay) Naomi Farquhar Tanno, 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2023, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on February 10, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio to Pilgrim Robert Farquhar and Lucie E. (Pracejus) Farquhar. Kathryn attended The Andrews Institute for Girls High School in Willoughby, Ohio and earned a degree in Art. In 1948, Kay graduated from Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio with a Home Economics degree. After college, Kay moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to pursue a career as a market researcher with Proctor & Gamble. She returned to Cleveland, Ohio working as a florist and married Lewis Oliver Tanno on July 26, 1952. Kathryn had many talents and interests and stayed active her entire life. She was an accomplished painter, potter, entertainer, decorator, and traveler. In 1986, The Tanno's moved from Mt. Sterling, Kentucky to Dade City, Florida when Lewis was called as rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Kathryn embraced the move, becoming very active in the church and the community. Kay was an avid walker and a member of Volksport, an international walking association completing walks all over the world. She was a long-time member of the Dade City Garden Club Hollyhock Garden Circle and a HPH Hospice volunteer. Kathryn was a beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by many. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband The Rev. Lewis O. Tanno and her grandson Donald Eugene Armstrong III (Trey). She is survived by their three daughters, Jessica Armstrong (Donald) of Stuart, Florida, Laura Boison (Mark) of Lexington, Kentucky, Roberta Tanno (Jeffrey Pond) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and grandchildren, Raines Tanno Mielcarek of Lexington, Kentucky, Captain Cole H. Mielcarek, USMC of Lexington, Kentucky and Kathryn Claire (Mielcarek) Littrell (Allister) of St. Petersburg, Florida.
