Shirley R. Markley Counselman, Class of 1952
Shirley R. Counselman, 91, of Tiffin, passed away at 8:46 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green. Shirley was born December 23, 1930, in Toledo, to the late Wilmer and E. Ruth (Young) Markley. She married Donald R. Counselman on December 28, 1952 at Bethany Memorial Church and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2009. Survivors include her children, Randall (Sue) Counselman of Lake Geneva, WI, Ruth (James) Harnden of Brookfield, WI and Susan (Mark) Westphal of Bowling Green, nine grandchildren, Ginette (Corey) Mueller, Bethany (Robert) Schmelzer, Joseph Harnden, Matthew Harnden, Kathryn (David) Beyer, Nicholas (Karie) Westphal, Jason (Shellie) Lawrence, Alexis (David) Skoczyn and Travis (Jael) Lawrence and eleven great-grandchildren. Shirley worked as a home economics teacher at Riley Township in Clyde and later retired as an Elementary School Teacher for Tiffin City Schools. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tiffin where she enjoyed signing in the choir and being an active member of the United Methodist Women. Shirley graduated from Bethany High School in West Virginia and later graduated from Muskingum College. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
