Your Gift – His Story: David McDonald ’23
“I am very grateful for the privilege of being here at Muskingum,” David McDonald ’23 reflects. “Because of alumni support, I have a second chance at a college education.”
“My path did not lead directly to the University. After graduating from Mount Vernon High School (Ohio), I enrolled part-time at Central Ohio Technical College and worked at several jobs, but I was not finding my passion either in the classroom or in my work experiences.”
As he considered his next step, Muskie legacy members of his extended family – Daryl Sobehart Ransom ’62 (wife of the late Charles Ransom ’60) and her children Susan Ransom McDonald ’86 and Jonathan Ransom ’91 – suggested he visit the campus. “I fell in love with Muskingum on my tour and decided to enroll,” David recalls.
“I have found such a sense of community here and I have been able to discover who I am. Before I came to Muskingum, I didn’t know how much I like to learn and how much I like helping others.”
David has focused his academic studies in Music and Theatre, and he is planning to attend graduate school in preparation for a career as a college-level music educator. He is a member of the Choir, has sung with the Chamber Singers, and has been involved in multiple theatre and musical theatre productions, including the recent Anne of Green Gables play.
He has served as President and is currently House Manager of the music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, recently joined the cross country team, and regularly participates in events such as Muskie Preview and Welcome Weekend.
“I particularly enjoy helping new students get acquainted with Muskingum and passing along that feeling of welcome and belonging that means so much to me.”
