David S. Mitchell, Class of 1956

David Slater Mitchell, died on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Providence Point, Scott Twp, where he has lived with his wife for 11 years. He was born on November 5, 1933. Formerly of Mt. Lebanon, David graduated from Mercersburg Academy and the Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio. Drafted into the Army, he was trained in a new industry, computer programming. During his career in that field, he became Vice President of Information Technology at the Federal Home Loan Bank in Pittsburgh and the President of spin-off Financial Accounting Services, serving Savings & Loan banks in four states. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Steelers, loved gardening, big jig saw puzzles, and jazz. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lota Echols Mitchell, son Douglas (Shannon) and daughter Julie, grandchildren Colleen and Joe, brother Robert (Janet), niece Holly Heitmann (Noel), and nephew Jeff (Gayle). Another son, David Scott Mitchell, and a brother Jack preceded him in death.
