Norma Barton Ahlborn, Class of 1955
Norma Barton Ahlborn, 86, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away on April 23, 2020.
Born on June 4, 1933, in Breezewood, PA, to the late Mason Nile and Mary (Deremer) Barton, Norma was the beloved wife of Hervey D. Ahlborn and mother of Susan M. and Jennifer M. Ahlborn, dear sister of Virgil Barton (Pauline), the late Katherine Pershing (David), and the late Nile Franklin (Carole), and sister-in-law of Janet Roberts (the late James). Norma is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She graduated from Clairton High School and earned her bachelor's degree from Muskingum College in Concord, OH, in 1955. She worked as a teacher in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and California. She and Hervey were married on August 6, 1959, in Elrama, PA, and celebrated their 60th anniversary last year.
Norma was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Joy, PA, where she was instrumental in establishing the church library. She was also a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of the USA, developing from a troop leader into neighborhood chairman and eventually leading the Foxfire Council charged with managing a colonial-era house and grounds developed as an educational site at Camp Furnace Hills in Denver, PA.
Every day, she loved life, language, teaching, doing right, family, and the Lord.
