Ryan Burke ’14 Named Hancock County Wildlife Officer
Ryan Burke ’14 has been named Ohio Wildlife Officer for Hancock County by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.
His responsibilities are to enforce wildlife regulations and protect state lands, waterways, and property; to educate the public about conservation, wildlife, and safe outdoor recreation; provide technical advice and instruction about hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities; and perform fish and wildlife surveys.
“My Muskingum experience was a great foundation for my work now,” Ryan recalls. “I was introduced to hands-on research by my advisor, Professor Danny Ingold, who involved me with the work he and Professor Jim Dooley were doing at The Wilds. I was able to start my seminar project in my junior year, which gave me the great opportunity to conduct capstone research over two years. State biologists from the Division of Wildlife came to speak to us about careers, which opened my eyes to job opportunities in this field.”
Ryan earned his Muskingum Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the ODNR Wildlife Officer Academy and previously served the department at-large in central Ohio.
