Students experience London over Spring Break 2018
London Trip

Associate Professor of English Dr. Kekoa Kaluhiokalani and Associate Professor of Philosophy Dr. Rob Sharp recently led a group of students on Muskingum’s 2018 London Spring Break study tour, where they experienced art, history, architecture, and theatre in the cities of London, Bath, and Paris.

Their London itinerary included Westminster Abby, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, the British Museum, the National Gallery, and West End theatre shows. The group’s visit to Bath – the setting for several of Jane Austen’s works – featured the Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths, and distinct architectural features such as the Circus and the Crescent. In Paris, they visited the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Champs Elysees, and the Arc de Triomphe.

The London Spring Break program began in 2009 to provide students with an opportunity to explore the wider world and gain valuable insights about art, history, and culture. The program is designed to connect with curricular content of classes such as Arts and Humanities, World Religions, and British Literature. For many Muskingum students, the experience is their first time traveling outside of the United States.

Dr. Kaluhiokalani has served on the Muskingum University faculty since 2006. He teaches composition, masterpiece of literature, non-western literature, twentieth-century British fiction, and arts and humanities in western culture. He earned his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in English and Anglo/Irish literature and has a special interest in theatre and interdisciplinary studies.

Dr. Sharp, who been a member of the faculty since 2008, will be leading students on a trip to Italy this May. Dr. Sharp recently participated in an Ancient Greece in the Modern Classroom seminar at Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies campus in Washington, DC. He earned his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.
