Two student broadcasters earn national and state scholarships
Two Muskingum University students have earned national and state scholarships in recognition of their work with the university’s broadcast stations and campus newspaper, known collectively as Orbit Media.
Kayla Rausch ’16 has received the Broadcast Education Association Walter S. Patterson Scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year, which is awarded to a student that plans to pursue a career in radio. Rausch is a communications and digital media design major from New Philadelphia, Ohio. Her faculty advisors are Associate Professor of Digital Media Design Dr. Tom German and Associate Professor of Communication Gene Alesandrini.
Christine Holmes ’16 is receiving theOhio Associated Press Managing Editors Scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year. She is receiving a $2000.00 scholarship. Holmes is an English and journalism major from Youngstown, Ohio. Her faculty advisors are Associate Professor of Journalism Dr. Vivian Wagner and Associate Professor of Communication Dr. Lisa Marshall.
Both Rausch and Holmes are actively involved in all three of the university’s student media outlets, WMCO-FM, WMCO-TV and the Black and Magenta, the campus newspaper. They were encouraged to apply for their scholarships by their faculty advisors.
