Robert Barrows '68 receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Robert G. Barrows ’68 has been honored with the Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indiana Historical Society, in recognition of his contributions to the field of history through his publications, teaching, and service.

For nearly three decades, he was a member of the history faculty of Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).  He taught American history courses and served multiple terms as the department’s director of graduate studies and chair before retiring in 2017 as Professor Emeritus. Known as a valued mentor to his students, he served on more than 60 master’s thesis committees.

He previously served as an editor at the Indiana Historical Bureau and has authored or edited multiple publications.  He completed his graduate studies in history at Indiana University in Bloomington, earning a Master of Arts degree in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1977.
