Faculty to present 'American Expressionism' concertAmerican Expressionism, an evening of chamber music performed by Muskingum University Music Department faculty, will take place on Friday, March 16, 2018 in Caldwell Hall. A pre-concert lecture begins at 7:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Showcasing a wide range of American composers’ expressionistic styles, the program will feature the faculty brass quintet – the Muskingum Valley Brass – and other faculty and solo chamber artists.
Highlighting the program will be the premiere of “Stories in A Riot of Color,” a new composition by faculty member Michael Torres, performed by the Muskingum Valley Brass. Dr. Torres will discuss the work, which was inspired by LeRoy Neiman’s sketches of dancers, during the pre-concert lecture.
“The LeRoy Neiman exhibit influenced us to select a program of works that are very vibrant, use a wide variety of tonal colors, and convey an emotional experience,” said Dr. David Turrill, Chair of the Music Department and Associate Professor of Music.
The Muskingum Valley Brass members are Dr. Turrill (trumpet), Don Kason (trumpet), Dr. Lucas Kaspar ’10 (trombone), Dr. Tiffany Damicone (horn) and Steve Hildreth (tuba).
Dr. Harsha Abeyaratne (piano), Dr. Emily Oehrtman (soprano), Dr. Mario Marini (percussion), and Dr. Torres (saxophone) will also perform during the evening’s program.
