Nursing Laboratory Coordinator and Instructor

Muskingum University invites applications for a Nursing Laboratory Coordinator and Instructor.  This position provides teaching and learning support for students enrolled in a course that has a laboratory practice component for the University’s highly-ranked traditional BSN and Accelerated BSN pre-licensure programs.  This a full-time, benefit-eligible, 9-month administrative position that may also include the non-tenured faculty rank of Instructor.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Functions within Ohio Revised Code chapter 4723; The Nurse Practice Act
  • Receives all course materials and is oriented to the course by the course lead faculty.
  • Follows all policies and procedures unique to the specification Laboratory practice setting.
  • Works in collaboration with nursing course led faculty design, develop, set-up, and deliver laboratory simulation, case studies, and other teaching/learning strategies in assigned nursing courses that require a laboratory component.
  • Makes recommendations to the course lead faculty about the skills laboratory objectives relevant to specific course content for assigned NURS courses that require a laboratory component.
  • Evaluates and provides feedback to the course lead faculty about student performance in the laboratory.
  • Supervises students in Laboratory setting.
  • Provides feedback to students regarding their laboratory performance.
  • Is available for students as appropriate outside Laboratory hours to answer questions regarding assignments.
  • Participates in all components of course evaluation relevant to specific course content for assigned NURS courses that require a laboratory component.
  • Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshoots equipment concerns as needed.
  • Performs and operates computerized high-fidelity human patient simulators.
  • Provides consultation to faculty about the operation of equipment in the lab.
  • Assists with training and coordinating activities of nursing student lab technicians.
  • Evaluates and recommends procurement of new skills training equipment and simulator technology.
  • Participates in nursing lab tours and outreach events as needed.
  • Aids and evaluates students during nursing students return demonstrations in the lab under the direction of the nursing faculty.
  • Oversees the checking-in and out process of students during open lab hours.
  • Maintains an ongoing inventory of supplies and equipment needs for the nursing laboratory.
  • Provides input to the nursing program director and laboratory manager relative to the laboratory budget and maintaining a “state of the art” nursing laboratory, e.g. laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Actively participates in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures in the Nursing lab, and in conjunction with the Science Division leadership.
  • Oversees and provides leadership for the Nursing Student Laboratory Technicians.
  • Attends and participates in MUDON meetings.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Completion of an approved registered nursing education program in a jurisdiction defined in OAC § 4723-5-01(S).
  • At least two years of experience in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
  • A bachelor’s degree in nursing and enrollment in a graduate level course in a program for registered nurses to obtain a master’s or doctoral degree with a major in nursing.
  • Credentials and experiential background in Medical-Surgical Nursing or Certification must appropriately match the area of teaching.
  • Current, valid license as a registered nurse in Ohio.
  • Maintain active clinical practice in a medical surgical setting.
