Head Coach - Football
Muskingum University invites applications for a Head Football Coach. This position will develop and maintain a comprehensive football program within the philosophy of Muskingum University, the NCAA Division III structure, and the Ohio Athletic Conference guidelines. In addition to competitiveness, the coach will emphasize holistic student well-being and be a relentless supporter of Muskingum University and its athletics department. The applicant must be committed to Division III athletics, to advancing Muskingum’s mission, values and goals, and to providing visionary, creative, decisive, and ethical leadership.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide a clear vision of the role and mission of the football program and provide the leadership and management that will achieve excellence; academically, athletically, and socially.
- Establish excellent working relationships with the faculty to ensure academic success for all students.
- Supervise a competitive Division III football program that fully complies with all applicable NCAA, OAC, and institutional rules and policies.
- Use safety considerations in every decision: practice, games, travel, etc.
- Oversee and support the football program’s effort to recruit a broadly diverse group of student-athletes, ensuring that the student-athletes recruited to and competing for Muskingum can manage demands of a rigorous academic curriculum and excel in a NCAA Division III athletics program.
- Work closely with admissions and financial aid departments to understand and target the best recruiting plan for student-athletes.
- Coordinate and develop successful retention efforts.
- Serve as a key relationship builder with alumni, parents, and friends of the program: articulate Muskingum’s Football’s plans and visions to potential donors in close collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement.
- Schedule and manage practices and games in cooperation with the Director of Athletics.
- Plan and execute specific roster goals and team membership procedures.
- Identify, attract, and retain coaches who exhibit strong commitment to the values of the University, including open and honest communication, enthusiasm, and creativity.
- Create, approve, and oversee training cycles for group and individual workouts within the rules and the guidelines of the NCAA.
- Manage the budget, including use of operating and fund-raising dollars.
- Schedule facility use with the Director of Facilities and work collaboratively on facility overlap.
- Monitor student-athlete’s academic progress and promote use of campus resources.
- Coordinate all travel, meals, and lodging with the Director of Athletics and/or designee.
- Establish a growth development mindset within the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include game management, facility supervision, lifetime fitness instruction, or teaching a class.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- A bachelor's degree is required; master's degree preferred.
- Intercollegiate coaching experience.
- Working knowledge of NCAA Division III and OAC rules and regulations.
- Competent knowledge and experience in coaching and recruiting the Division III student-athlete.
- Commitment to Division III athletics, to advancing Muskingum’s mission, values, and goals, and to providing visionary, creative, decisive, and ethical leadership.
- Proven record of providing successful collegiate experience for the student-athletes, both academically and athletically.
- Strong ethical character.
