-
Eligible employees: full-time or part-time (at least 30 hrs/wk)
Effective date: up to 30 days after starting date or during open enrollment in DecemberIn compliance with Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code, Muskingum has designed a flexible spending benefits plan, which allows employees to use pre-tax dollars to pay their contributions to selected benefit programs. This plan reduces the amount of tax an employee pays on their income and may result in increased net pay. This type of plan may also be referred to as a "cafeteria plan."
The 125 Plan Compensation Reduction Agreement must be completed upon hire and will be renewed automatically each year unless an employee modifies or revokes it. Plan selections may be changed or revoked at any time due to a qualifying life event or during open enrollment each December.
- Flexible Spending Accounts ("FSA")
-
Eligible employees: full-time or part-time (at least 30 hrs/wk)
Effective date: up to 30 days after starting date or during open enrollment in December
Employee cost: no feesEmployees may use a designated amount of tax exempt money to enroll in a healthcare FSA, dependent care FSA, or both. When enrolling in an FSA, employees should estimate their anticipated expenses and designate an appropriate amount to be placed in the FSA.
Health Care FSA: employees may designate up to $2,750 to pay for health care expenses not covered by the University’s health, vision, or dental insurance plans. At the end of the plan year, up to $500 will be rolled over to the new plan year without reducing the maximum allowed contribution.
Dependent Care FSA: employees may designate up to $5,000 to pay for dependent child care or eligible parental care costs.
The FSA Compensation Reduction Agreement must be completed upon hire to either enroll or waive participation in any FSA program. Initial enrollment may occur upon hire or during open enrollment each December. Employees may change their FSA selections at any time due to a qualifying life event or during open enrollment. To continue participation during the next plan year, a new form must be completed during open enrollment each year - re-enrollment is not automatic.
Employees are responsible to know which expenses are eligible for reimbursement and to submit their own claim forms. Participants must file any claims no later than mid-February of the following plan year; after that time, unused funds are forfeited.
