Director of Graduate Teacher Education

Muskingum University invites applications for a Director of Graduate Teacher Education. The Director provides leadership and managerial oversight for the graduate teacher education programs at Muskingum University. With attention to recruitment and revenue generation goals, the Director responds to regional and state needs by developing new pipelines, programs, and credentials that support students and occupational trends in the education field. The Director will have limited teaching responsibilities each academic year.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic leadership

  • Provides vision, leadership, strategic direction, and management of the Graduate Education Department. 
  • Creates a strategic action plan to meet the annual revenue goals established for graduate teacher education.
  • Serve as the lead contact for graduate education to the different constituencies of the university (students, prospective students, alumni, faculty, administration, partners, and the public).

Recruitment

  • Identifies needs and participates in the development of programs to address the needs of organizational clients (Education Service Centers, school districts).
  • Leads marketing efforts, including search engine optimization, for graduate teacher education in collaboration with the Strategic Marketing & Communications Office and other recruitment staff.
  • Prioritizes the recruitment of adjunct faculty as a strategy to grow enrollment pipelines throughout the state.

Assessment and accreditation

  • Conducts ongoing department and program assessment and prepares and submits annual department reports to the Provost. 
  • Assures that graduate students are advised according to curriculum plans approaches that promote student growth and development. 
  • Assure that the department uses data-based assessments for assuring attainment of student learning outcomes. 

Program development

  • Supports the development of a strong and sustainable portfolio of programs for diverse constituencies.
  • Monitors and responds to trends in teacher education on a national, state, and local level to assure that Muskingum offers the most relevant and responsive credentials, including continuing education credits.

Administrative, staffing, and budgetary oversight

  • Supervises and evaluates graduate education staff; assures efficient workflows between operational areas and across the Education Studies department.
  • Supports scheduling and strategic staffing for graduate education programs and creates efficient course schedule and staffing plans to optimize program resources.
  • Develops and manages the department budget in keeping with University policies, regulations, procedures and guidelines. 
  • Maintains curriculum in full compliance with all University policies and academic programs and with the standards for educator preparation set forth by AAQEP, by the Ohio Department of Education, by state professional associations, and by national specialized program associations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Doctoral degree in education required; consideration will be given to candidates who are within one year of completing.
  • Substantial experience in progressively-responsible higher education faculty and administrative roles. 
  • Record of success in prior administrative/academic appointments. 
  • Passion for promoting excellence in PreK-12 education by supporting education and professional development of new and licensed educators.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge of AAQEP or other national accreditation standards and processes. 
  • Skilled in the use of data-based decision-making models and experienced in assessment of student learning outcomes. 
  • Evidence of productive collaborative working relationships with other administrators, faculty, staff, and community members. 
  • Creative and entrepreneurial approach to program development.
