Carpenter

Muskingum University invites applications for a Carpenter.  This position will be responsible for campus-wide carpenter work including maintenance, repairs, and preventative care.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Construct, repair, and maintain the physical details of the campus, including, but not limited to, cabinets, doors, roofs, suspended ceilings, furniture, wall systems, flooring, windows, and all other building components 
  • Cut to size and install glass and screens
  • Lay out details of projects using blue prints, specifications, and written and oral instructions
  • Inspect materials for grade and quality 
  • Prep and paint various materials 
  • Problem-solve for complex situations 
  • Erect and work from scaffolds and ladders 
  • Maintain record of time and material used 
  • Construct forms and mix, pour, and finish concrete 
  • Keep current on existing key systems 
  • Diagnose and repair defective locks 
  • Supervise helper, as assigned 
  • Maintain the sharpness of cutting tools and blades and keep hand and machine tools in good operating condition
  • Determine methods and scope for repair and/or replacement projects, as appropriate 
  • Maintain records and inspection of fire extinguishers program and smoke detectors 
  • Assist other physical plant personnel as appropriate and continue cross-training for all maintenance positions

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to perform manual tasks that require moderate physical strength, including ladder use and erecting scaffolding 
  • Knowledge and ability to safely and correctly use tools and machines for repairs and maintenance 
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and environments
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, processes, and materials of the carpentry trade 
  • Ability to follow complicated instructions and read complex drawings 
  • Must be a self-starter with good organizational skills and ability to prioritize 
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate special events 
  • 24/7/365 call back 
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver's license 
  • Ability to interact with various customers in a campus setting
