Assistant Professor of Musicology or Music Theory
The Department of Music at Muskingum University invites applications for a full-time, renewable appointment in Musicology or Music Theory at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will begin in August 2025. The Music Department has been an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1935.
The successful candidate will be a student-centered instructor who demonstrates readiness to contribute to a new curriculum that offers broad-based music programming designed to engage students from across campus. Preference will be given to candidates whose work broadens traditional disciplinary boundaries and connects with areas such as Popular Music and World Music; additional teaching and advising duties will be determined commensurate with experience. A high level of engagement with the music community at Muskingum is expected.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching courses in musicology and/or music theory at all undergraduate levels
- Contributing to the Music and Music Education majors
- Engaging students from across the university in general education courses
- Participating in departmental and university-wide service
- Teaching in online and hybrid formats for both on-campus students and through a national academic consortium
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or D.M.A.) in Musicology, Music Theory, or a closely related field by the time of appointment
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching
