Facilities
Established in 2010, Otto & Fran Walter Hall is thoughtfully designed to provide a functional and inspiring environment for teaching, learning, and performing music in the twenty-first century. Features include: two recital halls for choral and instrumental rehearsals and performances; acoustically designed classrooms, studios, and practice rooms; a keyboard and composition laboratory; a student lounge area. In addition to the Department of Music, the lower level of Walter Hall is home to the Department of World Languages and Student Accessibility Services. In addition, Brown Chapel serves as the primary on-campus venue for public performances of music.
Anna & John Glenn Classroom: Our keyboard and composition laboratory features electronic pianos and computers that are utilized for instruction and student work in piano, audio and recording, composition, and instrumentation.
Burlingame Recital Hall: Our ground-floor recital hall doubles as a rehearsal space for large instrumental ensembles.
Young Recital Hall: Our second-level recital hall doubles as a rehearsal space for large choral ensembles.
Faculty Offices/Applied Music Studios: Studio spaces are acoustically designed for minimum sound travel.
Classrooms: A range of classroom spaces feature double pane glass to help alleviate sound travel.
Practice Rooms: Practice rooms feature newer pianos, windows, and acoustic treatments for minimum sound travel.
Student Lounge: Tables and chairs, a microwave, and complimentary beverage station help students relax, recharge, build community, and collaborate on classwork and other tasks.
Brown Chapel: With seating for approximately 800, Brown Chapel (est. 1912) serves as the primary on-campus venue for public performances of music.
