The Otto and Fran Walter Humanitarian Fellows Program
The program looks to expand students’ understanding of local and global peace and justice initiatives and develop their ability to serve as leaders of social change.
ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM
Education: building the fundamental knowledge and awareness of the power and complexities of building connections for peace and community development activities.
Empowerment: encouraging deeper exploration of opportunities to positively influence peace and social justice and developing a sense of efficacy through leading and affecting change.
Engagement: nurturing connections between students who share a passion for peace and social justice and developing professional networks with advanced fellows, alumni, and mentors whose accomplishments provide role models for change.
GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
Students who participate in the program will:
- understand the foundational ideas, dynamics, and issues related to peace and community development;
- have a high-impact learning opportunity that offers extended, in-depth experience related to peace and development;
- will have networking opportunities with alumni, peace and development organizations and official speakers;
- develop and carry out a capstone project geared toward advancing peace and development on campus and/or in the community.
