Hook Your Books FAQ
Hook Your Books Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the Hook Your Books program?
-
Hook Your Books is a course materials delivery program that provides free course materials to all traditional undergraduate students and ensures they have their required course materials on the first day of class. Course materials are loaned to students for the semester and must be returned at the end of term.
-
How does it work?
-
- Register for your classes and the bookstore will start preparing your course materials
- Before classes start, you will receive an email from eCampus.com instructing you on where and when to pick up your books on campus
- Digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Blackboard
-
How do I enroll in the program?
-
All traditional undergraduate students will be automatically enrolled in the Hook Your Books program. Students do not need to do anything else to enroll.
-
What is included in the program?
-
The program provides all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and digital textbook versions. While textbooks must be returned at the end of the term, students can keep their lab manuals.
- What is excluded from the program?
-
The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as art supplies, lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, engineering kits or nursing kits. Textbooks that are recommended, but not required, are not included.
-
What if I want a hard copy of the textbook if it is provided to me in digital format?
-
You can print portions of digital textbooks on their own. There is also the option to purchase additional formats, other than what was provided within the course material bundle. For some classes, inexpensive loose-leaf versions will be available for purchase.
-
Can I write in my textbooks?
-
You CAN write in your physical course materials that will be returned at the end of the course. Typically, there is no penalty unless there is a significant amount of writing or damage to a book. If you write in or highlight a large portion of the books (around 50%) then that would be considered too damaged to reuse. At the time you return your rental, there would be an evaluation and you would be responsible for replacing the book if needed. If a you receive a rental book with that amount of markup, eCampus will replace it with an acceptable copy.
- What if I drop or add a course during the first week of classes?
-
- Drops: Once you drop a course, you can return any books to the bookstore or ship them back to eCampus using the free UPS label from your My Account. You can use your original box; free boxes and packing tape will also be available in the bookstore.
- Adds: Once you add a course, the new books would be ordered and usually shipped to campus within a day. New digital materials would be available in 24 to 48 hours.
- Do I get to keep my course materials once my class has finished?
-
Physical books must be returned at the semester’s end; however, your lab manuals do not need returned. Digital content will typically last 6 months or until the course closes in Blackboard.
-
When are my textbooks due back to eCampus?
-
The deadline to return all loaned textbooks is the last day of finals. Students will receive email reminders about the deadline along with the drop-off location.
-
Can I buy my textbook?
-
Yes, students can purchase materials at a discounted rate through their My Account after the rental period is over.
-
Do I need to return books if they are used for more than one semester?
-
For a continuation, allowing course materials to carry over from one semester to the next, the student needs to enroll in the course for the following term, and the instructor must request the same course material, including the exact ISBN for the next term. In this case, the student will not be required to return the course materials and instead will keep it through the end of the following term. Your due date on “My Account” will update as early as 4 weeks prior to the next term, or as late as 48 hours after enrollment.
-
What happens if I add or drop a course?
-
The system will automatically be notified of any add/drop changes within 24 hours. Newly required course materials are shipped daily or delivered digitally in Blackboard. Course materials for dropped classes need to be returned within 14-days of course drop or delivery of books, whichever is later, to avoid charges. Students will be notified of the pick-up and drop-off locations for any classes added or dropped.
