Muskingum Announces Updated Spring 2021 Academic CalendarIn the following correspondence issued in late September to Muskie students, Provost Evangelista outlined detail regarding some important updates to the Spring academic calendar:
Dear Muskingum Students,
Now that we are nearing the midpoint of a memorable fall semester, we have a much better sense of the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as what has worked in keeping our campus safe. These experiences have contributed to the development of the Spring 2021 Academic Calendar. There are several changes keep in mind with the calendar.
- The start date on January 18, 2020 allows for a longer winter break.
- Classes will be in session on January 18, with programming celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. scheduled on that day and throughout the week.
- The class meeting times will return to our traditional Monday, Wednesday, Friday 50 minute and Tuesday, Thursday 75-minute schedule.
- There will be no spring break.
- There will be two “reading days” placed in the calendar on February 17 and March 16. These are designed to be “mini-breaks” for students, faculty, and staff to refresh and renew mid-week. Classes will not be held on these days, nor will assignments be due or other class activities be required. Students are expected to remain on campus during these days.
- The semester will end with five days of semester wrap-up class meetings. These 150-minute class meetings will be used for class projects, presentations, tests, summary discussions and reflections, or other assessments that tie together the learning outcomes for the course.
- Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2021. While we are hopeful that we will be able to return to a live ceremony, the format will be finalized in the spring semester as we assess the health situation at the University, in the local community, and beyond.
