Muskingum Professor of Art Yan Sun’s “Morning Glow” Selected for National Oil Painting ExhibitionMuskingum’s acclaimed professor of Art, Yan Sun, has added yet another national exhibition to his lengthy list of laudations as his oil painting “Morning Glow” was recently selected and added to the Oil Painters of America’s (OPA) 2020 Juried Virtual Salon Show. Per OPA’s website, “the show features over 350 exceptional works of art from artists across the United States and Canada and showcases many of today’s top professional artists.”
According to Professor Sun, “Morning Glory” demonstrates how he is attracted to the pleasures of boating and the wonder of the water. In this plein air painting, he explored the shapes of boats, the shimmering waters of the lake, and the reflection of the sky. Thick brushstrokes were then used to enhance the brilliance of a beautiful morning.
Yan Sun's paintings have been shown in solo exhibitions in art centers and galleries, as well as museums such as the Hayden Museum of American Art, the Zanesville Museum of Art, the Canton Museum of Art, and the Museum of East Texas. His award-winning paintings have also been selected in numerous regional, national, and international art exhibitions. In recognition of his contributions to the museum and its community, the Zanesville Museum of Art named its “Diverse Cultures” Gallery the "Yan Sun Diverse Cultures Gallery."
OPA is a not-for-profit organization representing more than 4,000 artists throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Founded in 1991, the organization is dedicated to preserving and promoting excellence in representational art. Its primary focus is to draw attention to the lasting value of fine drawing, color, composition and the appreciation of light.
The 2020 Juried Virtual Salon Show, which is replacing the postponed Salon Show at Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, Georgia, is slated to run from Aug. 13-Oct. 3, 2020.
