The university's undergraduate curriculum is driven by Muskingum University's enduring and inspiring mission statement that embraces the timeless qualities and advantages inherent in a liberal arts education. It also recognizes the need for coursework, programs, and unique opportunities that evolve and meet the changing - and future - needs of our students, of society, and of the needs of a globalized world.  The undergraduate curriculum responds, thus, by design to our mission's call to make quality academic programs a fundamental and ever-present priority.

At Muskingum University, students obtain the breadth of knowledge and experience that further informs their specialized studies within their chosen majors. This approach benefits each student's own personal knowledge expansion and satisfaction, and responds proactively to the needs of the modern national and international workforce. Today, employers increasingly seek hires not only proficient in specialized disciplines, but who are also able to think critically, work creatively and ethically, and who can respond nimbly and expertly to the constantly-changing priorities of modern work and technology.

Muskingum University, therefore, offers a wide diversity of over sixty disciplinary and interdisciplinary majors in the most popular and most important fields prized by students and employers - many of these programs (general engineering, for example) are also professionally accredited. The university also offers an array of in-demand educator licensure programs, plus a licensure program in Nursing. Students, thus, are sure to find just the right program that will speak to their needs and interests, and put them on the pathway to success.

Recognizing the importance of life-long learning in today's economy, Muskingum University also offers the Muskingum Adult Program (MAP) for adult degree-completers. By taking advantage of courses offered in the evenings and on weekends, MAP participants can earn bachelor’s degrees in a number of important and in-demand fields on a timetable that responds to the needs and demands of their busy schedules.

The university's strategic priority of low student-to-faculty class sizes means that students have open access to a highly-personalized education, and to highly-specialized - and caring - faculty. More than 90 percent of our faculty hold a doctorate or the highest degree available in their fields. From first-year courses right through to senior capstone courses in the major, students at all levels are taught by highly-qualified, expert faculty, dedicated to student success, and who become valuable resources for students - even after graduation. Whether it is a question about coursework, or about employment or graduate school options, Muskingum University faculty are there for their students.

The education of Muskingum University students is further supported by the university's continued investment in its programs and in the futures of its students. Such dedication to student success may be seen in the university's recent additions of innovative new majors and programs - Athletic Training and Petroleum Geology, for example - of exciting co-curricular activities, and of new cutting-edge academic facilities - most notably a new and truly 21st-century, technology-rich, library that opened in January of 2016.

Additionally, the university has further expanded its already-solid - and increasingly important - experiential programs such as internships, service learning, and international programs, as well as its signature - and highly-successful - student-faculty collaborative summer research program: Muskie Fellows. Most departments also routinely offer students off-campus fieldwork, and course-related and career exploration/preparation (Published example from the History department) excursions, along with opportunities to collaborate with faculty on research papers published in prestigious professional journals, and to present or co-present at regional and national conferences.
