Carly Dickson just received her diploma this past Saturday; the art and English major grew up in Hilliard, Ohio.
Dickson hadn’t even heard of Muskingum until halfway through her senior year of high school. She toured campus and “simply put…could picture a future-me strolling around campus.”
Dickson was a member of the Delta Gamma Theta sorority, where she held several leadership positions. She was also very involved in the Art Club and Kappa Pi International Art Fraternity; she served as president of both organizations during her time at Muskingum. She was also a member of Omicron Delta Kappa, the junior/senior leadership honorary.
Dickson spent a month in Ireland, Scotland and London, taking a course on Scottish and Irish literature and ancient history. She said, “It was the single greatest month of my life. Ever since I can remember I have had a bone for travel. I want to go everywhere, see and touch as many things, feel as many emotions, experience as much of this tangible and intangible world as I possibly can. So the decision to study abroad was not really even a decision for me, but a prerequisite for my future.”
Dickson also completed an internship at the Zanesville Museum of Art, where she “learned to handle, move, photograph, and hang artwork. I even got to unpack samurai swords and open them to look at them. It was awesome.”
Dickson reflected on her time at Muskingum: “My experiences at Muskingum couldn't have been expected, but I am ecstatic with where I am and the choices I have made to become the person I am today. If given the chance, I would make every decision the same a thousand times over, and that includes my choice to attend Muskingum.”
