Erin (Blood) Rollins, ’04, gained much experience as a theatre major that aids her today as the Costume Shop Manager for BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio. Of the Theatre Department, Rollins says, “The department is small, giving each serious student a huge number of opportunities to get personal mentoring and try out different things. I walked away with an ability to take ownership of the projects given to me, to think outside the box and problem solve.”
Rollins, who has been working at BalletMet for almost nine years, now oversees the costuming for six ballets annually, and has also had the opportunities to be a dresser for Broadway tours and to create costumes for Opera Columbus.
As someone making decisions in the hiring process, Rollins advises job seekers: “I’ll pass over someone with tons of experience if that is coupled with a bitter spirit, a sense of entitlement or an unwillingness to be a team player. Conversely, I’ll gladly hire someone who is just out of college if I know I’m getting someone with honesty, integrity, respect for authority, willingness to learn and willingness to work.”
