Courtney Knichel, ’08, came to Muskingum from Benedict, Maryland; she knew of the University because her aunt and uncle lived nearby.
After graduating with a communication degree, Knichel took an internship with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, a professional baseball club. She was later hired as the Marketing Assistant for the team, then was promoted to Marketing Manager at the end of 2009. In 2013, she was promoted to Assistant General Manager. Most recently, Knichel was promoted to General Manager of the team. She will oversee the entire operation, from tickets and marketing to stadium operations, concessions and community relations.
Knichel says, “Muskingum taught me to be independent. I…was forced to branch out and make friends with total strangers.” For Knichel, joining a sorority, Chi Alpha Nu, was a formative experience. She said, “I could have never anticipated having such close relationships and sharing such a strong bond of sisterhood.”
Knichel has many fond memories of her time at Muskingum: “I think of Muskingum often and long to be walking on the quad, excited with anticipation of Varsity Revue during Homecoming, football games, trips to the dining hall, or countless hours spent at the Kianu House. It really is a piece of my heart now. My memories of The Long Magenta Line couldn't be any fonder.”
