Dr. Lisa Marshall, Professor of Communication, was featured in Ohio Magazine’s December 2015 article “Excellence in Education 2015: Inspiring Minds.”
Dr. Marshall, currently in her ninth year of teaching at Muskingum, has called this campus home since her undergraduate days in the early 2000s. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Muskingum in 2003, then went on to hear her Master of Arts in Telecommunications Management and her Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Studies from Ohio University and Bowing Green State University, respectively. She says, “Landing the position to teach at my alma mater right out of grad school and be back home close to family and friends was very serendipitous. I'm very grateful.”
Marshall teaches courses in the Journalism and Communication Departments and also serves as Station Manager for WMCO 90.7, the campus radio station, and Faculty Advisor for The Black & Magenta, the University’s campus newspaper. She is the program advisor for the Journalism Department and the Muskingum chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. She also co-advises the MU chapter of the American Association of University Women.
Apart from teaching, advising and working closely with students on campus, Marshall is completing her sixth year on the College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) Board of Directors, where she currently serves as treasurer. She explains the purpose of CBI, her role in the organization, and how Muskingum students have benefited from it: “CBI provides college and high school electronic media outlets with educational and professional opportunities, including hosting the National Student Electronic Media Convention every fall. (Muskingum students have attended the convention every year since it's inception in 2012). Aside from my fiscal responsibilities, it's been enjoyable to learn how to execute a convention for students to learn how to better themselves and their media outlets. The convention has also opened doors for our departmental students to serve as CBI interns for the past 4 years; their design work has been featured in convention logos, programs, T-Shirts, bags, mailers, and on CBI's website. I'm proud to be part of a great national organization that serves student media.”
