Daniel Heflin, a 2013 graduate of Muskingum, earned a degree in mathematics, along with an Adolescent/Young Adult Education License. The New Richmond, Ohio native has returned to his hometown, where he is teaching at his alma mater, New Richmond High School.

Heflin chose Muskingum because he wanted to play D3 golf; however, he also realized he wanted to continue singing, so he sang in the Muskingum University choir all four years that he was on campus.=

Heflin, who is now in his fourth year of teaching, married another Muskie; the two are expecting their first child this year.

Heflin’s experiences on campus – both in and outside the classroom – shaped who he is as an educator today. He explains, “All…of the professors [in the Math Department]…were caring and extremely intelligent. Without them, I wouldn’t be the teacher I am today.” Heflin also credits his time working as a Resident Assistant with helping him to grow in responsibility and relationships.

Heflin advises current college seniors: “First, enjoy this last year! There is nothing like being an undergraduate! …Most importantly…life after college is different, but it’s a good different. College will be a great memory, but make sure you plan for the rest of your life.”
