Residence Life
Muskingum University is a residential community, where the majority of students live on campus or in the village of New Concord. So where will you live?
Muskingum’s living options range from traditional residence halls, sorority, fraternity and social club houses to Lakeside houses, and townhouses.
On the East and West campus hills you’ll find housing with newly furnished lounges, computer labs, and laundry facilities. Each of our six traditional residence halls has a personality of its own - with the layouts, furniture, and building styles differing from the next. All of our traditional halls are outfitted with Proximity Access Card readers, permitting only the residents assigned to the building to access them with their student ID cards.
After your first year, you may want to consider living in some of our alternative housing options. Located on Lakeside Drive on the east side of campus, students can apply to live with friends in our Lakeside houses. Located near the softball field on the west side of campus, students can apply to live in our Townhouses, a very independent living option. These alternative housing options are not outfitted with the Proximity Access Card reading system currently.
Regardless of where you live, you’ll find residential life at Muskingum is more than just a place to live. All of our facilities provide the chance to belong to a community within the larger campus. You’ll quickly feel right at home – and if you’re looking for someone to share a late-night pizza, compare notes, or take an early morning jog around the track, you won’t have to go far!
Housing Selection Information
Housing selection information for all rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors can be found here: Housing Selection Booklet.
Incoming first year and transfer students can access the New/Transfer Student Application via their MyHousing Portal starting on March 17; applications are due by 5pm on June 27. Incoming first year students are housed in rooms within Thomas (co-ed by floor), Memorial (all male), and Moore (all female) Halls. Transfer students are placed in upper-class halls based on availability. All halls have communal restrooms. Incoming first-year and transfer students will be notified of their Housing Assignment via email by 5pm on July 3rd. Any incoming student that deposits after July 3rd will be placed in available spaces.
For information on Gender Inclusive Housing please contact the Director of Residence Life at alisona@muskingum.edu. If you feel that you need specific living accommodations, including an Emotional Support Animal or Medical Single, please reach out to the Student Accessibility Services Office to discuss the process at accessibility@muskingum.edu.
Permission to Live Off Campus Forms
Students who wish to live off-campus and have lived on campus for at least 6 semesters, must submit an application to live off-campus and receive permission from the Student Life Office. If you qualify, you must submit the application by Wednesday, March 26, at 5:00pm. Applications can be picked up in the Student Life Office starting on March 5.
OR if you do not meet the above qualification, you must meet ONE of the following:
- You are married.
- You are older than 25 years of age or older.
- Your parents/guardian live within a 35-mile radius and you plan to live at home with them.
Students who do not meet the above criteria will be automatically denied their request to live off-campus. Students may appeal to the appeal’s committee but usually only students with dire financial hardships are approved for appeals. The Residence Life Office strongly encourages all students not to sign property leases until they have been granted permission to live off-campus.
Townhouse/Lakeside House Selection
In order to apply for a Townhouse/Lakeside House, groups of six must complete the Townhouse/Lakeside House application found on MyHousing Portal (under Apps and Forms) by 5pm on March 20.
Applications to live in the Townhouses/Lakeside Houses will be available starting March 5. For the Townhouse/Lakeside selection, every person living in the house MUST complete the RETURNING STUDENT: Townhouse and Lakeside Housing Application AND the Townhouse and Lakeside Roommate Selection. If one person of the group does not complete the application and roommate selection, the whole group will not be eligible to select a house.
Townhouses/Lakeside Houses can be co-ed within the house but must be single gender within the rooms. Townhouses are made up of 3 double rooms. Lakeside houses are made up of 2 single rooms and 2 double rooms. Townhouse/Lakeside Selection Process will take place on March 25 online via the MyHousing Portal. You will receive an email on March 24 with your group’s specific online selection time.
Triples Selection
In order to apply for a triple room, groups of three must complete the Triple Room application found on MyHousing Portal (under Apps and Forms) by March 26 at 5pm. Applications to live in triple rooms will be available starting March 5. For the Triple Room selection, every person living in the room MUST complete the RETURNING STUDENT: Triple Room Application AND the Triple Roommate Selection. If one person of the group does not complete the application and roommate selection, the whole group will not be eligible to select a triple. Triple Room Selection will take place on March 28 online via the MyHousing Portal. You will receive an email on March 27 with your group’s specific online selection time.
Singles and Super Singles Selection
Applications to live in a single room will be available starting March 5 on MyHousing Portal (under Apps and Forms) and will be due by 5pm on March 26. Single Room and Super Single Room Selection Processes will take place on March 28 online via the MyHousing Portal. You will receive an email on March 27 with your specific online selection time.
Due to physical building limitations, there will only be 9 true singles available for the 2025-2026 academic year. This year there will be 25 super single rooms available, which are larger than single rooms. Since lottery numbers are determined by credit hours, rising sophomores and juniors will most likely not win a single room. Due to the limited number of single spaces, everyone should have an alternate housing plan.
Doubles Selection
You will receive an email on April 1 with your specific online selection time. You will want the person in your roommate pairing with the best selection time to choose the room for the pair. People without a matched roommate pairing will not be able to choose a double room online. Those who fail to choose a room during doubles selection will be auto assigned by the Residence Life staff and notified of their room and roommate assignment at a later date.
In Search of a Roommate?
If you do not have a roommate in mind for the 2025-2026 academic year, please watch the “How to Search For a Roommate’ video found in the Student Digest. You will be able to search different criteria via the MyHousing Portal to try to find a roommate you feel best matches your lifestyle. If you still have not found and matched with a roommate by the time Doubles Draw comes around, you will auto assigned a space/roommate by the Residence Life Staff.
