Journalism

The Journalism major prepares you for a career in convergent media, learning to communicate news using multiple mediums across different audience platforms. Both in the classroom and through co-curricular media involvement, you will practice hands-on reporting skills in writing, audio, video, photography, and web.

  • Reporting, writing, and producing news stories in first semester with one-on-one faculty classroom and co-curricular mentoring
  • Access to Caldwell Hall’s second floor Burlingame Communication Center, which houses media classrooms, software, and studios
  • Campus and community weekly student newspaper, full-time, FCC-licensed non-commercial radio station, and cable-access TV channel
  • Experience covering breaking news, feature stories, athletics, and community events happening on Muskingum’s campus and in the New Concord region    
  • Opportunities for student leadership paid positions and off-campus internships              

Outcomes

Experiencing journalism in all forms of reporting and production prepares our graduates for the ever-changing media landscape and for successful careers in traditional and non-traditional media.

Our students can begin work in media and communication fields immediately after graduation or advance to graduate school programs to specialize in advanced theory or practice.
