“One Community, Many Journeys” Celebrates DiversityMuskingum University’s campus-wide celebration of diversity, “One Community, Many Journeys,” features a week of events from February 16-23, 2019.
Sponsored by the University’s Special Events Committee, the week is designed to champion the culturally rich world in which we live and spotlight how individuals bring their differing stories and backgrounds together into one community.
Encompassing visual and musical performances, speakers, and a fashion show, the events include:
- “Ain’t I A Woman,” a performance highlighting the achievements of four African American women, February 16, 7:30 p.m., Caldwell Theatre.
- “Of Our New Day Begun,” a Muskingum Valley Symphonic Winds Concert celebrating Black History Month and featuring works of African American composers and others which draw inspiration from significant events and people of the Civil Rights Era and today. February 17, 2:30 p.m., Brown Chapel.
- World Languages Multi-Lingual Social, February 19, 4:00 p.m., McCalmont Colloquium Center.
- “Finding Your Way on the College Campus: Gender, Race Sexuality, and Other Identities that Matter,” with keynote speaker Rahuldeep Gill, an author and educator who believes in the power of “heartful” means to develop effective and innovative leaders with global perspectives and whose presentations strive to build pluralism and cross-cultural relations to inspire connected communities. February 20, 7:00 p.m., Boyd Science Center.
- Spoken Word Poet at Brewed Awakenings, February 21, 9:00 p.m., Chess Center Social Hall (student ID required).
- Black Student Union Fashion Show, February 23, 7:00 p.m., John Glenn Gymnasium.
