It does so through active collaboration, and through the coordination of the work of the faculty and the academic support staff who serve our caring academic community.

Teaching effectiveness and student learning has been central to Muskingum University throughout its history. The quality and dedication of our faculty may be seen in the results. Whether students come to the university from nearby southeastern Ohio and Appalachian communities or, increasingly, from farther away (even overseas), they receive outstanding instruction, and go on to accomplish truly great things, both for themselves and for others. From founding the University of Chicago, to becoming the CEO of the Ford Motor Company, or the first woman to head a major public utility, or heading the business news division of CNBC - even orbiting the earth - Muskingum University graduates excel and perform to extraordinary levels.

That legacy of teaching and learning excellence continues, and motivates us still. In today's increasingly inter-connected and highly inter-dependent world, students need to acquire both solid, in-depth, skills in their selected discipline, as well as the very broad skills in understanding, effective communication, and critical and analytical thinking required by our global economy - and for solutions to global challenges. The need, in fact, has never been greater. Grounded in the liberal arts tradition, Muskingum University's undergraduate curriculum - and experience - gives our graduates the skills and knowledge that they need to be genuinely successful and to have a positive impact upon society.

Academic Affairs promotes faculty and student success through shared governance; curricular oversight and coordination; faculty hiring and promotion; faculty development; support for faculty research and for high-quality teaching; and the administration of the academic departments and programs, as well as the library, the Registar's office and other units within Academic Affairs. The Provost serves as the university's chief academic officer.
