User Responsibilities

Storage Media

Students are responsible for supplying, formatting and care of their own storage media. Lab machines use 3.5" disks, 250MB ZIP disks, 750MB ZIP disks, CD-R/RW discs, and USB Memory Devices. All of these media forms are sold at the University Bookstore as well as at Staples, Wal-Mart, and Radio Shack. Students are advised that making frequent backups of their data disks is highly recommended to prevent those last-minute "It's not working!!" moments. CNS strongly encourages the use of USB Memory devices for the most reliable performance.

E-Mail

All new students will be given a personal e-mail/web account. A password is necessary to access this account. Your initial password is supplied inside your telephone AuthCode packet and can be changed once you login to WebMail by choosing Options. If you forget your password, please come to CNS for assistance.

Virus Detection / Prevention

All of the Muskingum labs have some type of virus detection and protection software running. If you own a personal computer, please take the need for virus protection seriously. In order to connect to the university's data network and internet service, the registration process checks for and validates that each student's conputer is running a supported virus protection solution.

Computer Ethics

Unauthorized copying of copyrighted software is both illegal and unethical. Please don't put yourself or Muskingum University in jeopardy. You are expected to respect the laws governing use of copyrighted and intellectual materials, which includes software. Individuals who copy software illegally are liable for the fines and/or imprisonment incurred. Documents covering computer ethics are available from CNS and the Statement of Computer Ethics for Muskingum University is printed in your student handbook and available on the campus web site.

Students are subject to disciplinary action including, but not limited to, the removal of their access to the campus computer labs and/or the university network!
