Muskingum College Chapter # 653
A Brief Local History
Muskingum College received its charter at a meeting in the physics lecture room on the first floor of Cambridge Hall (before its renovation) on the afternoon of March 24, 1970. The installing officer was the national president-elect of SIGMA XI, Dr. Frank Croxton from the Battelle Memorial Laboratory. Others present were: Tom Holme, Sigma Xi Executive Secretary; Dr. William P. Miller, Muskingum College President; Dr. William L. Fisk, the College Dean; and the fourteen charter members of the faculty who were members of SIGMA XI from their post graduate institutions. The Chapter officers were: President, Merrell Crandell, Physics; Vice president, Clement Dasch, Biology; Secretary/Treasurer, David Quinn, Biology. In 1974/75 for the first time student affiliates (13) were accepted as part of the organization.
