Oktoberfest
With the traditional "Ozapft is" (the barrel is tapped) the Lord
Mayor opens the Oktoberfest at 12 noon. It is also a tradition that the
biggest funfair in the world takes place at the foot of the statue of Bavaria.
For two weeks the visitors stream onto the fairground to try out the modern
and nostalgic funfair attractions and to enjoy beer and meals to the accompaniment
of Bavarian music in the beer tents.
Oktoberfest fans can be pleased this year: the Oktoberfest lasts
one day longer this time round, as the Monday after the last weekend is
a public holiday.
| Cultural Corner:
Visit the City of Innsbruck in Austria. For extra credit points (20) you could create a flyer in German that would address some special sites of Innsbruck. You could create it with Powerpoint or Publisher, or simply MSWORD. Write an informed essay in English about the city and its sights. Imagine yourself to be a tour-guide! What would you recommend? ![]() ![]() |
