From President Sue Hasseler
Welcome! I hope you will visit our site often to keep up with what is happening at the University and to learn more about how we are carrying out our commitment to providing a dynamic and engaging experience that educates the whole person for the whole world.
The 2016-2017 academic year is off to a great start! The incoming Class of 2020 arrived for a very smooth (and sunny!) first-year move-in day. Our new students enjoyed a variety of orientation and social activities throughout Welcome Weekend, while our upper class students settled back in to campus life.
Everyone was ready for a year of new beginnings, as classes started and our entire campus community came together to celebrate Opening Convocation. Kim Ronald Smith, Class of 1977, delivered the keynote address to our students. “Today, we acknowledge a new chapter in your story…embrace this time, identify your purpose in being here, and make it meaningful.”
I am excited to see the many ways our students are already taking that good advice to heart, as they connect with each other and with our community, and the many ways in which our faculty and staff provide rich learning opportunities for students to find meaning and purpose in their time here. In addition to meeting with students, I have enjoyed the privilege of meeting with each academic department and continue to be amazed by the dedication, creativity and accomplishments of our highly qualified faculty and staff.
From the classrooms to the playing fields, from the stage and studio to the residence halls, from clubs and activities to experiential learning opportunities, our Muskies are honing their skills and knowledge, exploring their passions, expanding their horizons, and having an impact on the world around them.
My wish for everyone, which I shared as we concluded the Opening Convocation ceremony, is that the 2016-2017 year be one of challenge, engagement, service, and joy! We have only just begun.
