Muskingum University to offer Intensive Reading Endorsement Program in Zanesville and New Philadelphia in response to “Third-Grade Reading Guarantee”
Educators who wish to add a reading endorsement
to their credentials can enroll in a new program at Muskingum
University. Courses begin in early January 2013 in both Zanesville and
New Philadelphia. Enrollees can complete the program by early June
2013, in time for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.
"We are pleased and excited to offer this
endorsement which was created in response to Ohio’s Third-Grade Reading
Guarantee,” said Nancy Bradley, coordinator of this program at
Muskingum University.
The program will be offered in one after-school
face-to-face meeting each week, plus three Saturday meetings. “We hope
that the format allows flexibility and accessibility for educators who
are currently in the field,” added Bradley. The 12-hour program
includes classes in teaching reading Pre-K through 12, advanced literacy
assessment, and becoming a leader for literacy.
Completion of coursework in this program will
count toward earning a master’s degree at Muskingum University,
explained Bradley. Enrollment in this program is limited and the
application fee will be waived for those enrolling by December 19, 2012.
Muskingum University offers this innovative
program in addition to several intensive endorsement programs – early
childhood generalist, middle childhood generalist, and highly qualified
teacher – available throughout the year.
